The focus of the 2009 edition of the book was on basic subjects like anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and diagnostic techniques for chronic venous disease. In 2010 five very important issues are addressed, namely: the treatment of deep venous thrombosis, the relevance of superficial thrombophlebitis and its relation with deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, the issue if venous disease evaluates as an ascending or descending pathology, if venous reflux time or reflux volume-flow is the key to evaluating the severity of venous pathology and last but certainly not least the possible treatment options for lymph edema. The pros and cons for thrombus removal and its importance in the treatment of deep venous thrombosis, the ascending or descending etiology of venous disease and the relevance of reflux time or reflux volume-flow are also discussed. This book is written for all healthcare workers in the field of venous disease like vascular surgeons, dermatologists, phlebologists, vascular technicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.ContentsEpidemiology, risk factors, long- term complications and diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis: changes over the yearsRisk factors of recurrent venous thrombo-embolismThrombolysis: how to do it 2010Additional procedures to influence the outcome of catheter-directed thrombolysisIs anticoagulation alone the preferred treatment for iliofemoral DVT?Post-thrombotic syndrome and ulcer disease; what is the crux: outflow impairment or refluxVenous ulcers: treatment by dressings and compressionConservative versus surgical treatment of venous leg ulcers: ten-year follow-up of a randomized, multicenter trialLocal treatments for venous ulcer diseaseWhat if conservative treatment and surgical treatment of superficial and perforating vein incompetence fail in venous ulcer disease: alternativesSuperficial phlebitisPhlebitis and deep venous involvementEndothermal heat induced thrombosis after endovenous ablation of the great saphenous vein: clinical relevance?Prevention of venous ulcer recurrence: guidelines based on evidenceEdema in venous insufficiencyWhat are the relevant measurements in patients with venous insufficiency and what is the future like? Why the traditional retrograde hemodynamic evolution for the superficial venous insufficiency has to be questionedThe descending theory of venous incompetenceThe swollen extremity: diagnosis and non-operative treatment of lymphedemaOperative treatment options in lymphedemaReduction surgery of the leg by means of circumferential suction- assisted lipectomy (Brorson method) in daily practiceEarly diagnostics of lymphedema and self management after oncological surgeryCompression therapy in post-operative situations and wound edema: conditioning of the skin
